Washington, June 10 (ANI): The whistleblower who exposed one of the massive US-run intelligence surveillance programmes by NSA, has come forward revealing his identity but may not be able to resist US prosecution attempts.
While preparing his leaks, Edward Snowden left Hawaii for Hong Kong on May 20 so he would be in a place that might be able to resist US prosecution attempts.
Snowden's decision to flee to Hong Kong to escape US extradition may not save him from prosecution due to an extradition treaty in force since 1998.
Former technical assistant to CIA, Snowden, revealed the US surveillance programme aimed at tracking web user data from tech giants like Yahoo, Google, Facebook and Apple and also monitoring the citizens' phone calls, reports Huffington Post.
Snowden's identity was revealed on his own request when he said that he has no intention of hiding, as he has done nothing wrong.
According to the report, Snowden said that harming people isn't his goal but he can't allow the US government to destroy privacy, internet freedom and basic liberties for people around the world with the massive surveillance programme.(ANI)
