Jind (Haryana), May 17 (ANI): Situation in Narwana town of Haryana turned grim, as locals demanded enquiry into the rape of a school girl by the teacher.
Teacher of a government school in Narwana town of Jind district has been accused of raping a class nine student. As soon as the news spread , angry villagers gathered in the school campus and began thrashing the teacher and the principal of the school. The irate villagers later locked the duo in a room.
When the police reached the school, the angry villagers manhandled them, forcing the police to seek additional force to control the mob.
Education officer, Dilbag Singh Malik, said that the accused teacher has been suspended and handed over to the police.
The deputy superintendent of police, Rameshwar Lamba, said that they are investigating into the matter and trying to ascertain the details.
"We are investigating the matter. We have also called in the parents of the girl. The report of the teacher raping the girl has led to a tensed situation in the village," said Lamba.
The villagers demanded a complete change of the school staff and also a separate facility for the girl students.
"Most of the teachers in the school are corrupt and should be replaced with new staff members. The girls should study in a separate school," said Raja, a village resident.
Social activists complain that successive governments have done little to ensure the safety of women and children. (ANI)
