Whole price-based inflation eases

New Delhi, May 14 (IANS) India's wholesale price-based inflation (WPI) stood at 4.89 percent for the month of April as compared to 5.96 percent for the previous month, government data showed Tuesday.

It was 7.50 percent during the corresponding month of the previous year.

The index for primary articles rose by 2 percent to 228 (provisional) from 223.6 (provisional) for the previous month.

The fuel and power index declined by 0.7 percent to 194.6 (provisional) from 195.9 (provisional) for the previous month due to lower price of aviation turbine fuel (6 percent), petrol and furnace oil (2 percent each), and LPG (1 percent). However, the price of bitumen moved up 1 percent.

The index for manufactured products rose by 0.2 percent to 148.7 (provisional) from 148.4 (provisional) for the previous month.
