South Asian MPs to visit Britain for renewable energy dialogue

New Delhi, May 10 (IANS) Parliamentarians from India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will be in London next week to understand legislative options and challenges in the areas of renewable energy, climate change, energy security and low carbon growth.

During the three-day visit starting May 13, 10 MPs from three countries will meet climate change and renewable energy experts, officials in institutions and government bodies, legislators and ministers in Britain.

The visit is facilitated by the British High Commission and the Climate Parliament, an international network of cross-party parliamentarians committed to promote renewable energy through parliamentary actions.

The parliamentarians from India are J.D. Seelam, Botcha Jhansi Lakshmi, Vandana Chavan, Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo, Ali Anwar Ansari and Alka Balram Kshatriya.

Also part of the delegation are Zunaid Ahmed Palak and Murad Ali from Bangladesh, and Bernadine Rose Senanayake and Vijitha Herath from Sri Lanka.

According to a Climate Parliament spokesperson, this is the first South Asian delegation of MPs visiting Britain to initiate a parliamentarians' dialogue on renewable energy.

"The dialogue will open up new possibilities for the development of renewable energy and the promotion of international and regional cooperation," the spokesperson said.
