New Delhi, May 2 (ANI): The Union Cabinet has approved a Rs.11,000 crore plan to modernise the seven central paramilitary forces, including the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).

The decision will give a boost to ongoing efforts to strengthen the ITBP and other paramilitaries.

The union home ministry has said the paramilitary forces will be provided with sophisticated arms, ammunition, night vision devices, patrolling equipment and vehicles.

The plan - which is meant for all paramilitary forces including BSF, CRPF, SSB, CISF, NSG and Assam Rifles - was approved by the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

The entire Rs 11,000 crore will be spent to modernise these seven paramilitary forces in the next five years, beginning from fiscal 2013-14. (ANI)
