Govt. has failed miserably on Sarabjit release issue, says BJP's Javadekar

New Delhi, May 2 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday charged the UPA-II Government of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of failing miserably in its efforts to get death row Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh back to India on humanitarian grounds.

Addressing media in national capital New Delhi on Sarabjit's death in Lahore's Jinnah Hospital this morning, BJP spokesman Prakash Javadekar said: "It is a very sad incident. Pakistan can chop off the heads, and our government won't do anything."

"China will do (troop) incursion and the government won't do anything," he added.

"The government has failed miserably to protect our soldiers and our border. It has been a very sad death for Sarabjit and the responsibility is on the head of the Indian Government. This is an absolutely failure of Indian foreign policy," Javadekar said.

"Unfortunately, he has died. Now, the nation is very angry," he said.

Sarabjit was admitted to the hospital with a severe head injury and deep cuts to his neck and torso, all of them inflicted by six Pakistani prisoners inside Lahore's Kot Lakhpat Jail last Friday.

He had been admitted to the intensive care unit of the hospital, where four of his family members - his sister, wife and two daughters - had visited hi. They returned to India yesterday, and roundly condemned the Indian Government for not taking up their cause in right earnest.

Sarabjit's sister Dalbir Kaur even called on Prime Minister Singh to resign over the issue.

The family has reportedly arrived in the national capital New Delhi to meet with the Indian leadership over the issue. (ANI)
