New Delhi, April 30 (IANS) A man was arrested here for allegedly throwing a shoe at a city court judge after he acquitted Congress leader Sajjan Kumar in a case related to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case, police said Tuesday.

Karnail Singh Peer Mohammad, the president of All India Sikhs Students Federation, threw his shoe at District Judge J.R. Aryan after he acquitted Sajjan Kumar and convicted five others.

"Yes, he has been arrested," a senior police official told IANS.

The accused has been booked under sections 186 (obstructing public servant from discharging duties) and 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of the Indian Penal Code.

The accused's lawyer said that he had hurled the shoe not with the intention of hitting or hurting the judge, but to express his anger against the judicial system.
