Chinese incursion a matter of perception: Minister

New Delhi,Defence/Security,Indo-Pak/Pakistan, Sun, 28 Apr 2013 IANS

New Delhi, April 28 (IANS) The Chinese intrusion in Ladakh is a "matter of perception" and the stand-off would be resolved through diplomacy, Minister of State for Home R.P.N. Singh said here Sunday.

"The Chinese think we are intruding into their territory. Forty Chinese soldiers camping in four tents is not an intrusion. We think it is our territory. It is a matter of perception. It is an over 4,000 km undemarcated border," Singh told TV channel Aaj Tak Sunday evening.

He said: "The army will be deployed only when there's an incursion. Talks are on and the stand-off will be resolved through diplomacy."

"It is not a Chinese invasion. It is a localised problem and should not be blown out of proportion. Our foreign minister is going to Beijing and the Chinese premier will be visiting us soon. The issue will be resolved soon," he added.

Singh also refused to be drawn into a debate on the nature of Indian response if Pakistanis had intruded 19 km inside our territory. "The border with Pakistan is demarcated, fenced and lit. There's no controversy on this," he said.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Saturday termed the incursion by Chinese troops in Ladakh as a "localised problem" and that "India does not want to accentuate the situation".
