Hyundai pulls 'suicide car' ad following complaints

London , Fri, 26 Apr 2013 ANI

London, Apr.26 (ANI): Carmaker Hyundai has reportedly withdrawn an online advertisement featuring a depiction of a middle-aged man attempting suicide using exhaust fumes in its new model, following angry complaints.

Hyundai's attempts to tout its 'suicide bid car' with an offensive video last week have made the video go viral, the BBC reports.

The advertisement has highlighted the car's '100 percent water emissions' that has provoked strong complaints and bad reviews on the social media.

The report said that the advertisement has made advertising creative from London, Holly Brockwell, 'cry for her father' as he too had killed himself in a car in 1990.

Brockwell had blogged about her 'empty' and 'sick' feelings after watching the ad and had also written a letter to Hyundai and affiliate advertising agency, Innocean Europe, saying that she started shaking at the ad's start and cried at the recall of her past memories of her father Geoff's death when she was five years old.

Hyundai has then made it clear that the intention behind the video was to dramatize and bring out its new model's advantages, which they thought would culminate in a positive outcome, but regret that they were mistaken and said that they sincerely apologised.

Brockwell has further said that the man's failed suicidal attempt did not make her stop crying, but instead desperately want her father.

According to the report, Hyundai said that Innocean has created the video without its consent.

While Hyundai has said that they personally apologise to people impacted by such tragedy and their company is not involved with the video, and Innocean also assured that its motive was not to cause distress, Brockwell insisted that she had not received any direct replies from either of the companies.

Brockwell also claimed that she wanted Hyundai to know what such offensive videos can do to people. (ANI)
