New Delhi, April 25 (ANI): The Government of Arunachal Pradesh has initiated action for acquiring 320 hectares of land for the proposed greenfield airport project at Holongi on the outskirts of Itanagar, the state capital.
This was disclosed by Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh in a letter to Arunachal Pradesh Lok Sabha Member of Parliament Takam Sanjoy recently.
In his letter, Singh informed Sanjoy that he had been told by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) that it had forwarded a draft master plan for the proposed project to the Arunachal Pradesh Government.
He further informed that the state government had initiated action for acquiring the land for the project vide its gazette notification dated February 13, 2013.
Singh said that the AAI is also in the process of preparing a purchase for development rights (PDR) and obtaining necessary environmental and other clearances for the project.
The master plan was prepared following the acceptance of the site by the State Government for construction of the airport in view of its technical suitability and operational safety.
It was noted that the terrain at the new Holongi site permits operations on the runway from both directions as compared to the Banderdewa site which permits unidirectional operation.
It maybe recalled that last year Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki and Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh had also discussed the status of the development of airports at Itanagar, Aalo, Daporijo, Pasighat, Tezu and Ziro. (ANI)
