New Delhi, Apr. 20 (ANI): A 25-year-old youth allegedly involved in the rape of the five-year-old girl has been brought to the national capital from Patna and is presently being interrogated at the office DCP (East) Prabhakar.
Manoj Kumar was apprehended from Chiknouta, his in-law's village, from Muzaffarpur in Bihar early on Saturday morning. He was arrested by a team from Delhi with the help of local police.
Prabhakar earlier in the day said that the initial medical report confirmed that the victim was locked in a room for at least 40 hours.
"It is completely correct that she was locked in that room for around 40 hours. According to the report from MLC (medico legal certificate) and the preliminary interrogation of Manoj, it seems that he believed her to be dead and left her there," he said.
In the wake of massive protests in the national capital against the rape of a five-year-old girl and demand for action against policemen who allegedly tried to hush up the case by offering money to the victim's parents, Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde today promised tough action against the cops who are found to be guilty.
"An inquiry is going on to find out if there was any lapse on the part of police. We will take action against the policemen who are found to be guilty. We are waiting for the report. Give us some time, we will take action," he told mediapersons here.
Shinde described the incident as very serious, and said there is a need to be alert to check such crimes in the future.
The condition of the girl is on Saturday stable though she has suffered serious injuries in the assault, doctors attending on her said. The child was shifted from Swami Dayanand Hospital to AIIMS last evening. (ANI)
