Bangalore, April 16 (ANI): Major political parties took out rallies on Tuesday in which they raised the issue of corruption and promised development as Karnataka state is all set to go to polls on May 05.

Showing confidence ahead of the state polls, leader of Karnataka Janata Paksha (KJP) Yeddyurappa said that his party would contest for all the constituencies in the state.

"People have hundred percent confidence in me and we are going to contest all the 224 assembly constituencies. We are giving preference to all the communities in the upcoming elections and naturally we have started campaigning for the last two months," he said .

Approximately seven thousand candidates from different political parties will contest for 224 Assembly seats. The results would be declared on May 08.

In the last elections, India's main opposition, the Bharatiya Janata Party under the leadership of B.S Yeddyurappa formed its first government in southern India.

However, Yeddyurappa was forced to quit from the post of the chief minister after charges of corruption were levelled against him and his family members.

Yeddyurappa recently released the party's election manifesto and promised to work for the development of the province.

The political situation in the state worsened after 13 legislators tendered their resignation from the state assembly in the month of January.

Meanwhile, State President of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) in the state and Member of state Legislative Assembly, G Parameshwar slammed the ruling BJP.

He said, "This election is very important. Every Congressman, every Kannadiga (people in Karnataka) wants a change. Change for better. We have seen the dirty administration for the last five years. No growth in the state, no development, which is worth mentioning. I don't mean smaller petty things which BJP many a times talking about but there are no long term programmes which the BJP has achieved in the last four years."

The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee had taken up the issue of corruption.

The Congress party had also denied forming a coalition government, as it is confident of forming a government on its own.

The BJP's strength in the 224-member assembly is 120. While main opposition Congress Party has 71 legislators and the regional Janata Dal (Secular) has 26 legislators.

Despite losing the confidence after the Yeddyurappa's scandal, the party is still confident of winning in the upcoming elections, as it claimed that the last five years of governance and developmental work in state would win them votes.(ANI)
