Mamata Banerjee-Delhi fiasco: D. Raja says CPI doesn't endorse such acts

New Delhi, Wed, 10 Apr 2013 ANI

New Delhi, April 10 (ANI): Reacting to Tuesday's heckling of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and some of her ministers by Student Federation of India (SFI) and CPI-M activists as they arrived at the Planning Commission here, Communist Party of India (CPI) lawmaker D. Raja lawmaker on Wednesday strongly condemned it, saying that his party did not endorse such acts.

"As a party, we do not endorse such acts. Such acts should not have taken place in Delhi. The manhandling or the so-called manhandling, and the misbehavior with the West Bengal Chief Minister or with her Finance Minister, should not have taken place. We don't approve of such things. Having said that, I must appeal to all political parties in Bengal to maintain restraint," said Raja.

Earlier, supporters of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) took to streets of Kolkata to register their protest over the incident.

TMC student wing president Sanku Dev Panda said they would organise protests across the country till the accused were not arrested.

Panda further said, "We demand immediate arrest of those people who committed this crime. It's been twenty hours; they have still not been arrested. We have conducted a peaceful demonstration and it would continue till our demand is not met and we would raise our voice not only in Delhi, but also in the entire country."

Meanwhile, post mortem reports have suggested that SFI activist Sudipto Gupta, 23, died from multiple injuries, even as police claimed it was an accident. (ANI)
