Mukherjee to inaugurate 2nd India Water Week 2013

New Delhi, Apr 8 (ANI): The 2nd India Water Week 2013 beginning today with a theme "Efficient Management of Water: Challenges and Opportunities" will be inaugurated by President Pranab Mukherjee in New Delhi.

Minister of Water Resources Harish Rawat will be the chief host at the inaugural and valedictory functions and other parallel events.

The five day long sojourn is aimed to address the technical and policy areas of the sector and Exhibition addresses the technological solutions available commercially and generating B2B interactions as well B2G interactions.

It is also an attempt to provide equal emphasis on the policy aspects as well as the techno-commercial aspects by promoting the conference and the exhibition in equal measures. The event will be divided into two major streams namely, the conference and exhibition.

The programme for the event is divided into three streams, namely agricultural and irrigation, power and industry and domestic water supply (rural and urban).

Each of the streams comprises of a series of Seminars (where it is possible to present papers and hold general discussions on the subject of seminar), panel discussions (where specific topics can be discussed by the individual experts and sense of the house can be obtained by open floor discussions coordinated by an eminent expert in the field), Brain Storming Sessions (where you can deliberate amongst a small group of experts on a single topic and arrive at conclusions/ recommendations about the approach to be adopted for a solution to the problem at hand).

The topics have been designed so that the present efforts made by the Ministry and its associated organizations in the development of water resources are supplemented by the output of specific sessions.

The summit will host prominent personalities in the sector as key speakers and attendees. This event has generated considerable interest amongst those who are concerned with water resources. It is encouraging that 1758 registrations from 64 countries have already taken place. The technical themes have been well received with 200 papers likely to be presented at the Conference.

An exhibition named as Water Expo-2013 will be simultaneously held during the conference to show case the technology, latest development and solutions in improving efficiencies in the sectors of agriculture and irrigation, water supply and energy generation.

The exhibition has a wide spectrum of product and service providers from all over the world. The exhibition will also provide a specialized venue new materials and techniques in dam rehabilitation and improvement.

A number of international agencies like the World Bank, global water partnership etc. are holding special events focused on specific issues concerning the international community in water management.

A number of Minister/ political level delegates from neighbouring countries like Bangladesh, Iraq, Tuvalu, Saudi Arabia (tentative) are likely to participate in the conference and deliberations at personal level with the Union Water Resources Minister.

National Water Policy 2012 will be formally released at the inaugural session. (ANI)
