New Delhi, April 4 (IANS) A 23-year-old woman from Uttar Pradesh, who suffered serious burn injuries after an acid attack by two unidentified bike-borne men, is now in stable condition, doctors said Thursday.

Isha was late Tuesday shifted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital (SGRH) in the national capital where she is being treated for free, hospital authorities said adding that she will be kept under observation for a week after which she will be discharged.

"She is responding well to treatment. As of now, we are assessing the depth of her wounds on the face, neck and chest. As and when required, we will perform skin grafting," said Mahesh Mangal, chairman of SRGH's department of plastic surgery.

According to the doctors treating her, the maximum injury has been caused to her eyes as the acid was not washed immediately.

"When the girl was brought to us she had a severe chemical injury. Her left eye is extensively damaged. We have operated on her left eye to minimise the chances of complications. We hope to save the vision in her left eye in due course of time. The right eye is essentially normal," said A.K. Grover, chairman, department of opthalmology, SRGH.

The assailants threw acid on Isha, a young teacher, and her three sisters while they were returning home from a coaching centre in the Kandhla area of Shamli town, 525 km from Lucknow, Tuesday evening.

While three of the sisters received minor injuries, Isha suffered extensive burn injuries.
