New Delhi, April 4 (IANS) One of the oldest members of the Indian Law Institute here Thursday alleged lapses in the recent governing council polls and has written to Chief Justice of India (CJI) Altamas Kabir seeking withholding of the results.
Janak Raj Jai, 82, former personal secretary to first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru, said in a statement that he has Wednesday asked the CJI, the ex-officio president of the institute, for a stay on the April 2 election process and probe into the alleged irregularities.
Alleging non-receipt of ballot papers by some voters, deletion of names from the voters' list and irregularities in the counting process, Jai threatened to sit on a 48-hour fast if his requests were not accepted by April 13.
The institute, a deemed university, was founded in 1956 primarily with the objective of promoting and conducting legal research.
