New Delhi, March 25 (IANS) The Election Commission Monday announced April 18 as the date for the bypoll to fill the lone Rajya Sabha seat from Meghalaya, which fell vacant due to the resignation of sitting member Thomas Sangma.
Sangma, a Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) member, had resigned on Feb 4, while the term of office was upto April 12, 2014, said an official statement.
The lone Rajya Sabha member from Meghalaya, Sangma had resigned to contest the North Tura constituency on the National People's Party (NPP) ticket. He lost the election.
