London, Mar. 24 (ANI): Thousands of school kids have started suffering from low self-esteem after watching too much reality TV shows, teachers have warned.
Constant exposure to attractive stars on 'The X Factor,' 'The Only Way Is Essex' and 'Hollyoaks' is piling pressure on the students to achieve the "perfect" body, the Sun reported.
According to teachers, this phenomenon is having a disastrous effect on the confidence of boys and girls - and they want compulsory lessons on "personal image."
A classroom survey recently found that girls strived most to look like pop star Rihanna, while Harry Styles of boy band One Direction topped boys' lists.
Other "model stars" for kids were 'X Factor' judge Nicole Scherzinger, Cheryl Cole, Justin Bieber and David Beckham.
Images from glossy magazines like Now, Closer and Heat were also affecting kids' self-image.
Helen Porter, a science teacher at St Gabriel's School, Newbury, Berks, is campaigning for body image lessons at the Association of Teachers and Lecturers' annual conference this week.
Porter said that pupils mark each other every day on their looks, adding that female students are now trying to have a narrow waist, long, slim legs and big breasts. (ANI)
