Pawar announces relief package for drought-hit Maharashtra

New Delhi, Mar. 13 (ANI): Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar on Wednesday announced relief package for Maharashtra.

"There were proposals from government of Maharashtra. For drought in Rabi, second crop. So, the committee has approved 807.84 crore to Maharashtra. In Kharif, we have sanctioned to Maharashtra 778 crore and for Rabi 807 crore to Maharashtra," he said.

The government has announced monetary package for the farmers to save their orchids from drought.

"We have prepared a package which is of 60,000 rupees per hectare and out of that, 30,000 rupees will be given as assistance to the farmers who had got orchids of up to two hectares. We have provided additional 400 crore to the state of Maharashtra to save orchids," said Pawar.

Pawar further said that the government has also increased the subsidy to be provided to the drought-hit areas.

"The small and marginal farmers they were getting input subsidy where the crop loss is more than 50 percent in the area up to two hectares. So for rain fed area, the input subsidy was 3000 rupees per hectares today we have enhanced it to 4500 per hectare," he said.

An Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM) on drought, headed by the Agriculture Minister, today approved over 2892 crore rupees relief package for six affected states. (ANI)
