Authorities in Tripura allow prisoners to appear for state level examination

Agartala, Mar 6 (ANI): Authorities in Tripura have made provisions for prisoners of the central jail to appear for the state level examinations.

Secondary board examination for tenth grade started in Tripura on Tuesday. The jail authorities here made arrangements for the prisoners to sit for the state level examinations.

This year along with the regular students there are seven candidates who are appearing for the examinations from the Tripura central jail, now known as correctional home.

One of the prisoners, Arjun Debnath, who sat for the exam, was delighted with the opportunity provided to him.

"I have participated in the felicitation of inmates who have successful passed the board examination. This has encouraged me and I also took the challenge to pass my secondary board examination and get felicitated like them. I am thankful to the officials of the Tripura Board of Secondary Examination and the jail authorities for helping me," said Debnath.

The initiative was taken by the jail authorities to encourage the inmates to pursue their education.

They provided them with books, notes and some extra time during the examination so that they can be successful.

An inspector general of the central jail of Agartala, Pankaj Chakraborty, told reporters that they had provided adequate assistance to the prisoners.

"The convicts and the adult prisoners, who are willing to appear in the examinations, every year, they are provided, necessary help, as well as encouragement is given by jail authorities. And last year also, students appeared for the examinations. This year also in the central examinations, 7 prisoners are appearing in the exams," said Chakraborty.

The secondary board of education of Tripura is also encouraged the prisoners as they decided not to take any examination fees from the jail inmates.

The efforts of the various authorities are yielding positive results as the number of candidates appearing for grade tenth and twelfth examinations have increased with time.

While seven prisoners appeared for the tenth grade exam, three of them appeared for twelfth grade exam, including a woman who had appeared for the tenth grade examination from the same jail. (ANI)
