Hyderabad, Mar 2 (IANS) Skipper Michael Clarke and Matthew Wade hit unbeaten half centuries as Australia reached 187 for four in the first innings at tea on the first day of the second cricket Test at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppal, here Saturday.
Clarke was batting on 68 and Wade 55 as Australia scored 104 runs in the post-lunch session. The 104-run unfinished fifth-wicket stand helped Australia recover from 83 for four.
Pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar bagged three for 46 while offie Ravichandran Ashwin got one for 41.
Opting to bat first, Australia suffered the first set-back in the third over as David Warner (6) became Kumar's maiden Test wicket. The dimunitive opener failed to negotiate a ball that came in sharply and got an inside edge that crashed on to his stumps. Kumar struck again in the next over trapping Ed Cowan (4) lbw.
Shane Watson (23) played some nice shots and tried to attack the Indians. But he became Kumar's third victim after he was foxed by a short of a length delivery that kept low and trapped him infront. Watson struck four fours in his 31-ball 23.
Ashwin picked up Phil Hughes (19) with skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni taking a good catch behind the stumps.
India are leading the four-match Border Gavaskar Trophy 1-0.
