Gurgaon MP Inderjit Singh hints at quitting Congress

Haryana,Politics, Tue, 26 Feb 2013 IANS

Gurgaon, Feb 26 (IANS) Gurgaon MP Rao Inderjit Singh Tuesday hinted at quitting the Congress and setting up a regional party in Haryana.

"Dedicated workers have been sidelined for the last one decade. Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has been biased over development works in south Haryana and was fuelling factionalism in the party organisation," Singh told IANS.

"We are going ahead with all the options with open mind... that even includes formation of a regional party," he added.

Recalling then prime minister Indira Gandhi was defeated in the first election held after the Emergency and jailed, Inderjit Singh said: "After being released from jail, her first public meeting was in Ahirwal in 1978. We had our own local political party, Haryana Vishal Party, that was merged in the Congress to strengthen it."

The Ahirwal belt stretches over Gurgaon, Rewari, Mewat, Mahendergarh and Bhiwani.

Supporters of the four-time MP and former union minister are mounting pressure on him to take "bold steps".

"An important announcement will be made in the 'Insaf Rally' to be organised at Pataudi March 3," said a supporter.

Singh was first elected to the Lok Sabha in 1998. He served as minister of state for external affairs (2004-2006) and as minister of state for defence production (2006-2009). Since 2009, he is chairing parliament's standing committee on information technology.
