Anne Hathaway wins best supporting actress Oscar

Los Angeles, Feb. 25 (ANI): Anne Hathaway has won an Oscar for the best supporting actress for playing the doomed seamstress-turned-prostitute Fantine in 'Les Miserables.'

The Oscar win caps a remarkable run for the 30-year-old actress, who has won a variety of honours for her performance in the musical.

In winning, the supporting actress Academy Award, she beat out Sally Field from 'Lincoln,' who was considered her closest rival in that category, the Los Angeles Times.

Hathaway was inspired to have a career in acting after watching her mother, Kate, star as Fantine in a stage production.

To play the role of the emaciated Fantine in the movie, Hathaway lost about 25 pounds, so much weight that her director told her to stop.

But even if Oscar voters praised her work, she gave herself mixed reviews. When she was asked if she was pleased with her performance in the film before its theatrical release, she shrugged and said, "Eh." (ANI)
