Allahabad, Feb 19 (IANS) After three days of partial blackout, electricity was restored in the Kumbh mela premises late Tuesday, officials said.
Several sectors in the mela premises had plunged into darkness following incessant rains last week. Many power poles had collapsed during the rains and gutsy winds.
Street lights in many areas had also stopped working after which 500 electricity technicians were pressed into service. Power was restored late Tuesday.
While electricity wires that had snapped Sunday were reconnected Monday, power was switched off as tents in most places were inundated with water, which was drained out Tuesday, said a mela official.
About 11 MW power is being consumed in the mela premises every day.
The Kumbh started Jan 14 and ends on Shivratri on Mar 10.
