Jalgaon (Maharashtra), Feb. 9 (ANI): Welcoming the hanging of 2001 Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, eminent lawyer Ujjwal Nikam on Saturday said that the judicial procedures have taken too much time, but it is a historic decision.
Nikam, who has been Special Public Prosecutor in several high-profile cases, including 26/11 Mumbai terror attack case, said that if the decision were taken earlier, we would have been able to clear-cut massage to the anti-national forces.
"The decision has come late, but it is a historic decision. First of all we have been able to show that we can take concrete steps against terrorism, and second thing is that we have taken a tough decision with the consensus of all the major political parties," said Nikam.
Afzal Guru was convicted of conspiracy in the December 2001 attack on Parliament and was sentenced to death by the Supreme Court in 2004.
On 13th December 2001, five heavily-armed gunmen stormed the Parliament complex and opened indiscriminate fire, killing nine persons.
Afzal Guru was arrested within hours after the attack from a bus stand in the national capital. (ANI)
