'Zero Dark Thirty' fame town to be promoted for tourists

New Delhi,Business/Economy, Fri, 08 Feb 2013 IANS

New Delhi, Feb 8 (IANS) Mani Majra is being promoted as a movie tourism destination after "Zero Dark Thirty" shot in the small town near Chandigarh put it on the international cinema map, the union tourism ministry said Friday.

The Kathryn Bigelow-directed movie - a narrative about the decade-long hunt for Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden - won five Oscar nominations.

The tourism ministry has now launched an effort to popularise the town and inform potential visitors about how to get there, officials said.

The Incredible India website not only has an embedded YouTube video that shows the majestic medieval Mani Majra Fort, but it also shows glimpses of the town and shows the exact locations where the film was shot.

The website has a detailed map that shows how to reach Mani Majra by air, rail and road from Chandigarh as well as from the four major international airports of India.

This is part of Tourism Minister K. Chiranjeevi's efforts to promote every part of India that has any potential to attract international tourists.

The ministry had recently launched a campaign to promote Puducherry and Munnar (Kerala) where the international film "Life of Pi" was shot and hosted a tourism mart at Guwahati last month to promote the northeast.
