Modi arrives in SRCC amid massive protests, to address shortly

New Delhi , Wed, 06 Feb 2013 ANI

New Delhi, Feb. 6 (ANI): Amid massive protests from the Left wing students, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi arrived at the Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) here on Wednesday for his first public address in the national capital after achieving a thumping electoral win in his state in December 2012.

Scores of students, who have gathered outside the SRCC here, are raising slogans of 'Narendra Modi Go Away'. The protesting students here say that they are against Gujarat's development model.

Delhi Police, which has baton-charged some of the protesting students, have imposed Section 144 in the area.

Members of the BJP-backed National Democratic Teachers' Front (NDTF) have gathered here to welcome Modi.

The Gujarat Chief Minister, who met Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh earlier in the day, will address the students at a conclave organised by SRCC in a short while from now. He is expected to talk on 'Emerging Business Models' in the global scenario.

The Gujarat Chief Minister's visit to the national capital assumes significance in the wake of growing clamour in the BJP that he should be named as the party's 2014 prime ministerial candidate. (ANI)
