Rains and hailstorm lash Delhi NCR, heavy snowfall in Himachal

New Delhi/Shimla, Feb 5 (ANI): Heavy rains and hailstorm lashed several parts of the National Capital Region since Monday night due to western disturbances, dampening the spirits of office-goers on Tuesday morning.

The palpable nip in the air coupled with a modest spell of rain left the streets drenched.

Several parts of the city were waterlogged. Parts of Faridabad also experienced hailstorm last night.

The Met department forecasted more rain, thunderstorms and hail for Tuesday. The maximum and minimum temperatures for Tuesday are expected to be 19 and 11 degrees respectively.

The rains and icy winds from the north after a fresh spell of snowfall is likely to bring down the temperatures further in Delhi.

The Meteorological Department has forecasted heavy snowfall for Himachal Pradesh. The sky is likely to remain cloudy with snowfall in some areas.

Director of meteorological department Manmohan Singh informed about the weather condition in Himachal.

"The heavy snowfall that occurred 24 hours ago in Kilorka area was 1.5 feet, and 1 feet in killong area, 1.5 feet in Udaipur, 20-25 cm snowfall in Manali, 2 feet in Rohtang pass and the snow fall is still continue in upper hilly areas," said Singh.

Indeed, this turned out to be a delight for hundreds of tourists from the plains although the local residents must have been worried about enduring the hardships encountered during the winter season.

Heavy snowfall in the region this year has left locals to bear the brunt of the continuing cold snap as closure of the highway had impeded travel and food supplies.

Singh also predicted a fall in the minimum temperatures in the coming week.

The higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh have seen heavy snowfall over the last two days with some districts receiving upto 90 centimetres of snow. (ANI)
