Winter's bitter cold will end soon, predicts furry rodent on Groundhog Day

London, Sun, 03 Feb 2013 ANI

London, February 3(ANI): A Pennsylvania rodent called Phil has predicted that an end to winter's bitter cold will come soon.

Every year 2nd February is celebrated as Groundhog Day in America. This year thousands of people wait for a furry rodent to predict whether spring will arrive early or winter will stay for another six weeks at Gobbler's Knob, a rural area near the small town of Punxsutawney.

It is believed that if the furry rodent sees his shadow on 2 February on Gobbler's Knob, winter will last six more weeks. But if he doesn't see his shadow, spring will come early.

On Saturday Phil emerged from his lair in front of thousands in the eastern US state - but he didn't see his shadow, suggesting that winter's bitter cold won't stay much longer, the Telegraph reported.

The prediction is made during a ceremony overseen by a group called the Inner Circle.

Bill Deeley, president of the Inner Circle, said that after "consulting" with Phil, he makes the call in deciphering what he has to say about the weather. (ANI)
