Flesh trade racket busted in Delhi, minor rescued

New Delhi, Jan 29 (IANS) Three people, including two women, were arrested here for selling an 11-year-old girl into prostitution and the girl rescued, police said Tuesday.

Tahira, her husband Shamim, and Shehnaz were arrested Jan 27 from Delhi's Wazirabad on a tip-off regarding the sale of the victim.

"The raid was conducted along with NGO Shakti Vahini in Delhi's Wazirabad area and the victim was rescued from the possession of the accused," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Railways) S.B.S. Tyagi.

During interrogation, it came to light that the victim is the niece of Shehnaz.

"Shehnaz revealed that after the death of her first husband, she fell in the trap of prostitution. Later she came in contact with Tahira who is also involved in the prostitution racket. Tahira forced her niece into prostitution at the age of 10 years," said Tyagi.

The accused were trying to sell the girl for an amount of Rs.70,000 when they were apprehended.
