Lured by Rs.1 crore lottery, student duped of Rs.2 lakh

Gurgaon, Jan 11 (IANS) Lured by a lottery prize of Rs.2 crore, a second-year bachelor of science (B.Sc.) student at the government women's college here was duped of Rs.2 lakh, a senior police official said Friday.

"On Oct 24, 2012, Reena (name changed), a student of a government-run women's college in Sector 14 received a phone call saying she had won a lottery of Rs.1 crore. The caller asked her to deposit Rs.197,000 in the State Bank of India's (SBI) Sector 14 branch in an account," police said.

The victim is a resident of Sukhrali enclave near Sector 18.

"The caller claimed to be Bob Joshan and assured the victim on several occasions that it was the last instalment to claim the lottery prize. The victim deposited nearly Rs.2 lakh in the said account but never received the prize amount," police added.

On the complaint of the victim's mother Sushila Devi, police filed a case against Bob Joshan, Vinay, Aman and Ashok.

The accused are yet to be arrested.
