Sirsa (Haryana), Jan. 1 (ANI): As former Haryana minister Gopal Kanda continues to languish in jail for his alleged involvement in Geetika Sharma suicide case, two Haryana ministers have publicly praised him, and described Geetika as Kanda's servant.

The ministers were speaking at an event organised here to celebrate Kanda's 47th birthday on December 31.

Haryana Minister for Labour and Employment Shiv Charan Sharma said: "It's not a big case against Gopal Kanda. He just got himself a servant by mistake."

Sharma also claimed that Kanda would be soon out of all controversies, as he is 'innocent'.

Chief Parliamentary Secretary and Fatehabad MLA Prahalad Singh, who was also present at the occasion, said: "It's just bad time for my brother Gopal Kanda. But very soon he will be proved innocent and these rumours will die on their own."

Twenty-three-year-old Geetika, a air hostess was found dead on August 5 at her Ashok Vihar residence in Delhi and in one of her suicide notes, she had alleged Kanda and his another colleague and co-accused in the case, Aruna Chaddha, of harassing her.

In the time, when the entire nation is demanding safety and security for women amid persistent nationwide protest against the Delhi gang rape case, these controversial remarks has invited sharp criticism. (ANI)
