Gulmarg (Jammu and Kashmir), Jan. 1 (ANI): The tourism department of Jammu and Kashmir hosted an 'Adventure Sports Festival' at Gulmarg in Baramula district, attracting scores of New Year revellers who enjoyed variety of winter sports on snow laden slopes.
The extravaganza included a number of events like snow cycling, ice hockey and snow rugby which kick-started on Monday.
The Director of Tourism Department, Kashmir, Talat Parvez said that the aim was to make the New Year celebrations memorable for the tourists.
"A record number of tourists thronged the valley. In order to celebrate this, we have organised various adventure sports like snow zorbing, which is gaining popularity from the commercial point of view and a sledge riding competition was also organised," said Parvez.
The domestic as well as international tourists were thrilled to see Gulmarg at its best.
"Gulmarg is at its best. I think now at this time people should visit for New Year at least. It is nice and awesome," said Priya, a tourist.
Gulmarg known as the 'heartland of winter sports' in the country, at present, provides a picture postcard look with snow-capped mountains, beautiful valleys blanketed with fresh snow and miniature cottages made of wood in British style, which attracts scores of tourists to this place.
The officials of Jammu and Kashmir have planned special campaigns to promote Gulmarg as a global winter tourism destination. (ANI)
