DDA completely failed in providing shelter to people in Delhi

New Delhi, Fri, 24 Aug 2012 NI Wire

BJP Delhi Pradesh President Vijender Gupta has said that Delhi Development Authority has completely failed to solve the housing problem in Delhi and develop the capital during the last 55 years of its existence. He has demanded the Prime Minister and Central Urban Development Minister that the monopoly of the DDA and its conduct as private builder should be ended. One more Government Housing Agency like Delhi Housing Development Board should be set up on the lines of UP Board in Delhi so that these agencies may compete and the housing problem in Delhi may be solved.

Gupta told that DDA has deviated from its objective. This institution is behaving like a profiteer, builder. Due to this the price of DDA flats has gone upto 7 crore rupees. Paying such a large amount is beyond the capacity of common man. In view of the slow speed of working of DDA its new Vice Chairman Sanjay Kumar has issued orders that a weekly report be produced on every delayed DDA project.

The conditions are so bad that the flats, which were sold from Rs. 60 lakh to 1, crore under the 2010 housing scheme of the DDA, no arrangement for power & water has been made so far.

In our country many new builders have constructed lakhs of flats within two years and allotted to the people, but the Government agency like DDA has constructed only 3.67 lakh flats in the last 50 years. The quality of these flats is not in conformity with the standards of construction.

Recently the flats allotted in Mukherjee Nagar and Rohini by the DDA are not worth living. The people who have been allotted these flats had taken loan for purchasing the flats. They are paying interest on loan, but their dream for a house has not been fulfilled.

According to the census of the year 2011 now the population of Delhi has gone upto 2 crores. 47% of the people in the capital do not have houses of their own. In view of the history of DDA it is impossible for it to provide housing to such large number of people. Hence establishment of Delhi Housing Development Board is need of the hour.
