Rohini Residential plots: DDA set to revaluate plots' rate

New Delhi, Wed, 13 Jun 2012 NI Wire

After a long period of 31 years, Delhi Development Authority (DDA) on Tuesday finally announced the largest-ever draw of around 25,000 plots of 26 square meters to 60 sq. mts. However, this announcement that came after Delhi High Court's direction that had set June 13, the final dead line of the allotment, may provide partial relief to the beneficiaries as DDA is reportedly considering to revise the plots' rate that have been 31-years old.

According to DDA spokesperson, under the scheme, out of 24,529 plots, 4,402 plots of 26 sq. mts. under economically weaker section (EWS) category, 12,350 plots of 32 sq. mts. under low income group category (LIG) and 7,777 plots of 60 sq. mts. under middle income group category were priced at Rs.100 per sq. mts for EWS, Rs.150 per sq. mts for LIG and Rs.200 per sq.mts for MIG at the time of announcement of the scheme 31 years ago, which are now a throw away prices.

'Soon, DDA officials will convene a meeting to revaluate the rate according to current market rate.' he added.

DDA had floated the Rohini Residential Scheme way back in 1981 and had received a total of 82,384 applications.

"Since the registrations were made over 30 years back, the authority needs to verify their genuineness and eligibility before the possession is given," said DDA offical.

According to sources, the price rate of the plots can shoot up to 100 times as against erstwhile fixed rate. However, there are chances that the beneficiaries may challenge DDA's price hike decision in the court, market expert believes.
