New Delhi, Dec 25 (ANI): Minister of State for Home R.P.N. Singh on Tuesday expressed condolences on behalf of the government, and assured the aggrieved family members of Delhi Police constable Subhash Tomar of all possible help.

"In this hour of sorrow, I on behalf of the government, express condolence to Tomar's family. I assure them that the government will extend all possible help to them. Earlier also, I had said that violence serves no purpose," he said.

Singh also asked the police to apprehend the killers of Tomar and ensure that they are awarded stringent punishment.

"I will urge the police, the way they arrested the rapists, to catch the people, who have committed this heinous crime against Tomar and they should be awarded stringent punishment," he added.

Janata Dal-United (JD-U) chief Sharad Yadav, who visited the Tomar family in the hospital, appealed to the people to maintain peace.

"It is a very serious matter. I appeal to you (media) to see what is the consequence of a leaderless crowd. I will again appeal to people to maintain peace," he said.

Meanwhile, Tomar's brother-in-law Govind urged the government to take care of the late police officer's family.

"He was the sole bread-earner in the family. He was the only person, who was earning. Now, he has passed away. His family is saddened by it. They don't know what will happen in the future. I request the government to take care of his family," he said.

Tomar, who suffered serious injuries during violent protests at India Gate on Sunday, died today after battling for life at the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital here.

He will be cremated at the Nigambodh Ghat here with full state honours.

Tomar, who was on ventilator since his admission at the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital on Sunday evening, was declared dead at 6: 40 a.m.

Delhi Police, which has described the death of constable Tomar as extremely tragic, has decided that all personnel will donate one day's salary to his family.

Tomar is survived by his wife and three children - two sons and a daughter. (ANI)
