Protest at India Gate: Live Update Sunday
Police left no stone unturned to evacuate India Gate and the entire area from the clutched of protesters, however it was difficult to say that police remained successful in its effort. The event, which had displayed at the India Gate, was enough to show that the protesters agitating for the justice of gang rape victim succeeded in change the direction of the movement as per their desire. Police did its best to disperse the protesters by using water cannon, tear gas and even lathi charge but it can?t break the spirit and courage of the youth boys and girls who have been turned the India Gate as a major center for the attraction in the entire country.
Gang rape victim named as "Damini" by social networking sites: One for whom the entire youth today are on road to protest, and she has been battling for life in a Delhi hospital, has been named "Damini".
It is noted that "Damini" was a Hindi film, released in 1993, featuring a woman's struggle against society and her family for justice for a rape victim.
Police impose section 144 in New Delhi area: To control the mob gathering at India Gate Police taken all the measures and imposed prohibitory orders under section 144 of the CrPC in New Delhi area except Jantar Mantar, which bans the assembly of four or more people.
In a bid to convince the protesters, Police personnel were seen requesting the protesters to either go to Ramlila Maidan or Jantar Mantar to protest however it could not impressed the agitators.
Heavy police deployment at India Gate area: However heavy police deployment has been made in the entire area and it has been turned like a cantonment but still agitators are not ready to surrender before the administration. On the precautionary action, barricades set up across various intersections on the route have been thrown aside or dismantled, as the crowd's anger is being vented on the law enforcement authorities inspite of the imposition of prohibitory orders.
Tough time for Police as youth shows courage before water cannons: It was not a easy task for Police as protestors were not ready to leave the area. Police tried hard to put the protesters into the waiting buses and get them out of the India Gate area but many of them managed to slip through. Police uses lathicharged and water cannons on the students but it cannot disperse them finally.
Youth tried to save themselves from the water cannon force but never surrendered before the shell of tear gas and continued their protest at India gate.
Personalities visited India Gate to support youth: Many important personalities visited India Gate and supported the youth for their movement.
Aam Aadmi Party member and noted psephologist Yogendra Yadav said that the latest movement on the India Gate against the Delhi gang rape is enough to indicate that today the youth have been awakens.
It is a good indication for the India that youth have been unite on such a issue and protest the same in such a way without any leadership, he added.
Even Baba Ramdev who did not reach at India Gate, protested against the rape case at Jantar-Mantar and supported the movement at India Gate by the youth.
Arvind Kejriwal supported the youth for their movement and criticized the curfew imposed in the heart of Delhi to stop protests near the presidential palace. He said that it is nothing but a government waging "war" against the people.
He terms the prohibitory orders imposed in parts of the city center, he said that it is completely illegitimate.
Protest erupted violent as youth pelted stones on Police: According to sources the protest escalated violent after a few lumpen elements reportedly hurled bricks, stones on the police and security forces. The situation along the Rajpath and India Gate including outside to Rashtrapati Bhawan is spinning to be out of control, as after utilizing all the means to disperse the mob and agitators from these areas, Police have not succeeded to evacuate the area completely. Meanwhile reports say that protesters become violent on Sunday afternoon and some of them pelted stones and whatever else on city police.
