Uttar Pradesh,Business/Economy, Thu, 13 Dec 2012 IANS

Agra, Dec 13 (IANS) Decks are finally clear for flights to Agra by the year end, according to members of a delegation who met union Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh in New Delhi Thursday afternoon.

Rajiv Tiwari, leading the delegation from Agra, told IANS: "We had a very fruitful meeting with Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh. His son Jayant Choudhary, MP from Mathura, also joined us."

Air India flights will connect Agra with Khajuraho, Varanasi and New Delhi, three days a week initially. The flights are expected to start from the Christmas, the delegation claimed.

Tiwari said: "We requested the minister to make it a daily flight and he agreed in principle. Three planes will soon be available for new flights to Jaipur, Goa, Delhi and Goa."

The minister wanted early acquisition of land for a new terminal building at the existing Kheria Airport of Agra by the state government.

Ajit Singh told the delegation that he wanted to provide air connectivity to five Uttar Pradesh cities - Azamgarh, Meerut, Jhansi, Moradabad and Allahabad.

K.C. Jain, a member of the delegation, told IANS: "The minister himself will come by the first flight to Agra, along with his son. The work on the new terminal building will pick up momentum now that Singh himself is so keen on air connectivity with the Taj city."

Jain said the minister was also keen on air connectivity between Agra and Goa and Mumbai.
