81,056 minorities in paramilitary forces

New Delhi, Dec 12 (IANS) A total of 81,056 people from the minority communities serve in India's paramilitary forces and the Intelligence Bureau, official figures show.

According to Minister of State for Home R.P.N. Singh, the maximum of 27,984 were with the Border Security Force, 23,167 in the Central Reserve Police Force and 10,436 in the Central Industrial Security Force.

Assam Rifles accounts for 8,953 personnel, Seema Surakhsha Bal 4,446 and Indo-Tibetan Border Police 3,951. Another 2,119 serve in the Intelligence Bureau, the minister told the Lok Sabha Tuesday.

He said recruitment to these forces was conducted on an all-India basis "through an open and transparent selection process".
