Yeddyurappa formally launches Karnataka Janata Party, dares BJP to dissolve assembly

Haveri , Sun, 09 Dec 2012 ANI

Haveri (Karnataka), Dec 9 (ANI): Former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, who quit the BJP last month, formally launched his Karnataka Janata Party (KJP) at a massive rally here today.

Talking to media, Yeddyurappa challenged the BJP leadership to dissolve the assembly and seek a fresh mandate from the people after they suspended two of his loyalists - state minister B.J. Puttaswamy and lawmaker G.S. Basavaraj.

"We wanted that Jagdish Shettar should complete the term. But he is taking action against our people and there is no other way to tell our chief minister 'you adjust with our supporters, think it is a coalition government' or dissolve the assembly and go for fresh elections," he added.

He said his party would form the government after the assembly elections, due May next year, because people have faith in him.

"I have got faith in justice. I will come out clean. People of Karnataka know how I ruled for three and half years as chief minister and crores of people were benefitted. On that basis, today lakhs and lakhs of people are coming. They have got faith in me and I have blessing of god also. That is why I am telling you, we are going to contest 224 assembly constituencies. We are going to win absolute majority. We are going to rule the state," he added.

A core committee of BJP sacked Cooperative Minister Puttaswamy and Tumkur Member of Parliament Basavaraj on Saturday as a disciplinary measure

"There has been a disciplinary measure, because one Puttaswamy, he is a cabinet minister under my cabinet. He has participated in so many new party meetings and he campaigned for the new party. So it is an indiscipline in the national party's concern," Shettar had earlier said.

"With that indiscipline, our party has taken decision that he has to be dropped from the cabinet. We have already sent the letter to the honourable Excellency Governor to drop him from the cabinet," he added.

Yeddyurappa, who led the BJP to victory in Karnataka in 2008, was compelled to quit as the chief minister in July 2011 after the Lokayukta indicted him into illegal mining scam and also for his alleged role in the irregularities of allotment of land. (ANI)
