News Corp likely to split as top executive in UK set to quit

London, Mon, 03 Dec 2012 ANI

London, Dec 3 (ANI): News Corporation, the media behemoth controlled by Rupert Murdoch, has accelerated its plans to split into two, and the firm's most senior executive in Britain is set to quit, says a report.

Tom Mockridge, chief executive of News International, its UK newspaper operation which publishes the Times, the Sunday Times and the Sun, was in discussions to exit the business.

His departure is part of a major shake-up, which could also see the departure of James Harding, editor of the Times, the Telegraph reports.

News Corp said in June that it would separate its troubled newspaper and book publishing assets from its more valuable film and television businesses, which generate 74pc of its 33.4 billion dollars annual revenues and 90pc of its profits.

According to the paper, at the time, Murdoch said he hoped to complete the process within 12 months.

However, it has brought the carve up forward to the end of the month, as it tries to limit the damage caused by the News of the World phone-hacking scandal to the rest of the media empire, the paper added. (ANI)
