Municipal Health Officer in South Delhi Municipal Corporation, Dr. N.K. Yadav today informed that another species of Aedes mosquito is being detected and this species is Aedes albopictus. Aedes albopictus mainly breeds in peri urban and rural area.
According to Dr. N.K. Yadav it is a vector of dengue in southern part of India. Its role in transmission of dengue in Delhi has not been established as yet. He further informed that mosquito is suspectable to presently used insecticides and no extra measures are required since outdoor fogging is already being carried out.
Dr. Yadav further clarified that Aedes albopictus is resistant to presently used insecticides, which is not correct. SDMC is carrying out vector control measures i.e. anti larval operation and outdoor fogging operation which will control Aedes albopictus mosquito which prefers outdoor habitat.
