Bangalore, Fri, 30 Nov 2012 ANI

Bangalore, Nov 30 (ANI): Former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa is all set to resign from his membership of the Assembly as well as sever his 40-year-old association with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Speaking on his decision to quit the BJP, Yeddyurappa said: "They (BJP) don't want me to continue in the party and therefore I have decided to resign."

"I am not asking anyone to resign, I am requesting supporting MLAs to not resign from the MLA posts. If they do, let party take disciplinary action," he added.

He further asserted that he was firm on his resolve to launch his new regional party "Karnataka Janata Party" (KJP), which would formally come into existence on December 9.

According to television reports, Yeddyurappa will go in a march along with his supporters to Vidhana Soudha at 12 noon and submit resignation to his Assembly membership.

Yeddyurappa, who led BJP to victory in Karnataka in 2008, was compelled to quit as state chief in July 2011 after the Lokayukta (provincial ombudsman) indicted him into illegal mining scam and also for his alleged role in the irregularities of allotment of land.

Senior leaders of BJP like Lal Krishna Advani have not supported Yeddyurappa, who faces an array of corruption charges.

He was also arrested on October 15, 2011 after the Lokayukta court denied him bail in the illegal land deal cases, filed by two advocates. (ANI)
