Modi has full backing of BJP, says Arun Jaitley
Ahmedabad, Nov.25 (ANI): Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has the full backing of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said Arun Jaitley, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, on Sunday.
Interacting with media ahead of the 87 public rallies that the BJP leadership is planning to address over the next 48 hours, Jaitley said that the presence of so many party leaders in the Gujarat campaign was a testimony to this fact.
Jaitley is scheduled to address public rallies in Jamnagar District.
Other party leaders like L.K. Advani and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj are scheduled to address meetings elsewhere in the state, but a confirmation of this is yet to materialise.
"People left BJP not because of ideological differences, but due to personal differences. Those who left the party have regretted their decision. How they will affect us will be clear on the day of result. The Congress does not have any leader to match the calibre of chief minister Narendra Modi and that is the reason they are targeting him. I believe that Modi is one leader whose stature has increased due to this systematic targeting," he said.
On the issue of Modi being prime ministerial candidate for 2014 elections, Jaitley said, "His stature has increased at the national level, but the party will take a decision at an appropriate time on how to use him in future". (ANI)
