Attari/Jalandhar/Mumbai, Nov.23 (ANI): Pakistani and Indian nationals have supported the Indian Government's decision to hang Ajmal Kasab.

Pakistan citizens getting off at the Attari railway station in Punjab lauded India's decision.

"The law should be equal for all, the guilty must be brought to book, as far as Kasab is concerned if he was responsible for the carnage then I support his punishment. But there is no reaction of the incident in my country," said Ali Hassan Choudhary, a Pakistani national hailing from Lahore.

Kasab was executed amid great secrecy in Pune's Yerawada Central Jail on Wednesday morning.

He was charged with 86 offences, including murder and waging war against the Indian state, in a chargesheet running to more than 11,000 pages.

It was the first time a capital sentence had been carried out in India since 2004.

Meanwhile, in Jalandhar, relatives of Sarabjit Singh, an Indian facing the gallows in Pakistan, hailed the neighbouring nation's statement that Kasab's execution would not be linked to his release.

"Their statements have raised our hopes and I would like to thank them for it. This had bolstered our hopes from the Pakistan government and we pray to God to give them the conscience and strength to take the right decision so that my papa gets justice and comes home to us soon," said Poonam, Sarabjit Singh's daughter.

In Mumbai, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kirit Somaiya, accompanied by 17 victims of 2008 militancy attacks and their kin met Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan and urged him to expedite the process of sanction and payment monetary relief and compensation to them from the state government.

"Maharashtra government had said in the legislative assembly that it will pay for the complete treatment of the victims but so far has not granted a single penny. Despite rebuttal from the Commission and High Court, no action was taken hence we have come here with our appeal to the Chief Minister," said Somaiya. (ANI)
