Congress takes on Murli Manohar Joshi over R P Singh's allegations

New Delhi, Fri, 23 Nov 2012 ANI

New Delhi, Nov. 23 (ANI): The Congress Party on Friday lashed out at Public Account Committee (PAC) Chairman and Senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi over allegation of influencing Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) officials, levelled by former DG, Post and Telecommunication at CAG, R P Singh.

Congress leader and Minister of State for Planning Rajeev Shukla said that the allegations made against Joshi are very serious in the nature and some of his party colleagues are demanding a debate and some are even demanding a probe into the matter.

"When a responsible officer is making such allegations that the report was not made with his assent, facts in the report are not accurate and PAC Chairman called the officer to his residence, then it is a very serious issue," said Shukla.

Asked about Joshi's claims that the allegations are an attempt to malign PAC and CAG credibility, Shukla said: "The media has brought the issue in public and a retired officer has alleged him. Where the government comes in it. If the things come against you then you blame of conspiracy."

Former Director General, Post and Telecommunication at Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), R P Singh has disowned the reports on 2G spectrum scam and said the report submitted by CAG merely carried his signature and the audit was done without guidelines.

He has also alleged Public Account Committee (PAC) Chairman Murli Manohar Joshi of influencing CAG as officials had visited his residence on a holiday to help him prepare the panel's report on the 2G-spectrum allocation.

R P Singh has said that the loss figure of Rs 1.76 lakh crore mentioned in the report was presumptive and had been restored in the final report, despite having been deleted by him in the draft report.

At the other side, Murli Manohar Joshi rubbished all the allegations levelled by R P Singh and said that it is an attempt to malign the constitutional body. (ANI)
