Chief of ancient Saivaite Mutt in Thiruvaduthurai passes away
Nagapattinam (Tamil Nadu), Nov.22 (ANI): The head of the ancient Saivaite Mutt at Thiruvavaduthurai in Nagapattinam District, Sivaprakasa Desiga Paramacharya Swami, passed away on Thursday.
Mutt sources said that Sivaprakasa Desiga Paramacharya Swami was the 23rd head of the Thiruvavaduthurai Adheenam and was 72 at the time of his death.
They said that he had complained of difficulty in breathing and was rushed to an hospital in Kumabkonam, but died en route at about 2 a.m. this morning.
He had been unwell for most of the year.
Sivaprakasa Desiga Paramacharya Swami became the head of the 15th century mutt in 1980.
Meenakshisundara Desiga Paramachaya Swami, who was serving as the Kattalai Thambiran (chief disciple) of Thiruvidaimaruthur Adheenam, a branch of the Thiruvavaduthurai Adheenam, has taken over as the 24th head of the mutt. (ANI)
