No party will go with Banerjee: CPI?M

West Bengal,Politics, Mon, 19 Nov 2012 IANS

Kolkata, Nov 19 (IANS) Ridiculing Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee's appeal for support in moving a no?confidence motion in the Lok Sabha against the UPA government, the CPI?M Monday said no party would believe her or go with her.

"Far from having the strength to pull down the government, the Trinamool does not even have the requisite strength to move a no?confidence motion. So, now she (Trinamool chief and state chief minister Banerjee) is seeking support from other parties," Communist Party of India?Marxist (CPI?M) leader Surjya Kanta Mishra told reporters here.

The leader of opposition in the West Bengal assembly said: "Going by her past record, nobody is going to believe her."

"The Congress, the BJP and even the extreme Left?wing Maoists have burnt their fingers by aligning with her. The death of Maoist leader Kishanji (alias Koteshwar Rao who was killed in an alleged encounter) is an indicator of the price one has to pay for supporting her," Mishra said.

A minimum of 50 MPs are needed to table a no?confidence motion in the Lok Sabha. The Trinamool has 19 members in the lower house.

Mishra said in view of the "growing number of atrocities on political opponents" in the state, Banerjee should seek a confidence vote for her government, rather than moving the no?confidence motion in the Lok Sabha.

"She is a 'gnaye mane na apni morol' (a self?styled village head whom nobody recognises)," Mishra said.

He said that instead of moving a no?confidence motion, Banerjee should support the resolution to be moved by his party under Rule 184 in parliament against introduction of foreign direct investment in multi?brand retail.

The CPI?M politburo member said Banerjee's main concern was to keep her party intact.

"The party was on the verge of breaking point during the presidential elections itself (earlier this year). Then, she proposed some names, but nobody stood by her. Then she said her party would abstain. But then she did a U?turn and voted (for Congress's Pranab Mukherjee)," he said.
