Patna, Nov. 4 (ANI): Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday reiterated the demand for giving special status to Bihar.
Addressing a Janata Dal (United)-sponsored Adhikar Rally at Patna's Gandhi Maidan, Kumar blamed the UPA Government at the centre and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for constantly ignoring the genuine demands of the people of Bihar.
"Bihar constantly get affected by floods every year. It deserves special status. Despite several requests, the Prime Minister has not responded to our demands," claimed Kumar.
Emphasizing the need for granting special status to Bihar, Kumar said: "States that have been offered special status, have grown immensely. We want to change the destiny of Bihar, but the Centre has never wanted to give the rights that Bihar deserves. But, we will not rest until Bihar gets it special status."
Kumar has been vigorously raising the demand for a grant of special status to Bihar to help the state achieve the national average of development since 2005, when he first came to power.
Thousands of the JD(U) supporters from across the state, attended this concluding rally of the much talked about Adhikar Yatra.
The Adhikar Yatra was meant to mobilize public support for to build up pressure on the central government to provide special status to Bihar, with which the state could gain additional funds for expeditious economic development.
Kumar's Adhikar Yatra also attracted criticism for violence and ruckus at many places and recently for the participation of jailed former legislator Munna Shukla, alleged for demanding extortion money from a businessman for this rally. (ANI)
