Odisha forms panel to re-look its ore supply policy

Orissa,Business/Economy, Wed, 31 Oct 2012 IANS

Bhubaneswar, Oct 31 (IANS) Odisha has formed a three-member ministerial panel to re-look its existing ore supply policy and formulate a new one to ensure that the state-based industries get required ore on a long-term basis, an official said Wednesday.

The state's steel and mines department issued a notification in this regard Tuesday, a senior official of the department told IANS.

The minister of finance is the head of the new panel and the ministers of industries and of steel and mines are its members. The committee has been asked to submit its report to the state government within three months, he said.

The panel will suggest measures for making different ores, including iron ore, manganese, bauxite and chrome ore, available to state-based industries on a long-term basis in a fair and equitable manner through a transparent process, he said.

The government formed the panel after complaints from the mineral based industries in the state that they are facing shortage of ore required for running their plants.
